A late 19th or early 20th century decorative Chinese plaque or tray. The woven brass & copper boarder is strong & intact though the plaque does have some small spots of Verdigris. The elaborate & well finished etched image depicts an immortal bearing prayer sticks & descending on the back of a crane. The other character appears to be a scholar "or possibly a poet" with a scroll.
The writing on the scroll has not been translated but no doubt it relates to the image & may well also be signed. The overall feel is very soft & smooth & it's quite flexible, which makes for a very poor tray. The weight is 452g which would be about right for brass "though" to my eye it has more of a bronze tone. Please refer to the images for the overall condition & approximate size.
